
Chennai, May 20 : Member of MSLTA Vision programme and Bharat Forge-LAKSHYA players Rutuja Bhosale lifted the Girls Singles title while Arjun Kadhe went down in the finals at the Asian Closed Junior Tennis Championships being played in Chennai .
In the finals matches played at the SDAT complex , fifteen year old Rutuja Bhosale created history to become one of the youngest Indian girls to win the prestigious championships thrashing sixth seeded Ratnika Batra 6-1,6-4 to take the title.
Rutuja. playing under former Asian Junior Champion Sandeep Kirtane at Deccan Gymkhana emulated her coach's performance becoming the first girl from Pune and the second from the state after Isha Lakhani to lift the title after a gap of 10 year
"It is great feeling winning the title and I'm very happy to have won. I would like to thank my coach Sandeep sir, my sponsors MSLTA, Lakshya and Bharat Forge and my parents for all their help" said the tall and lanky bespectacled player after the match.
Rutuja received 200 ITF points which will take her rankings from 350 to around 80 in the world.
132 ranked and top seeded Xin Gao of China stopped the winning run of second seeded Arjun Kadhe in the Boys under 18 event winning 6-3,7-6(3)
Arjun who plays with Hemant Bendrey at PYC Gymkhana who got 140 points
"I played good tennis through out the week ,I played well but lost out on crucial points but all credit to my opponent"
Arjun partnering Rakshay Thakkar lost in the semis of the doubles will also move into the top 80 from around 130 this week
While , Rutuja pairing Aishwarya Agarwal lost to. top seeds Ayaka OKUNO and Aldila SUTJIADI in the doubles finals
