Chandigarh to host India-NZ Davis Cup tie

Davis Cup will return to Chandigarh after a gap of 19 years when the city hosts the Asia/Oceania relegation playoff tie from September 14-16.
India will play New Zealand to remain in the Asia/Oceania Group I after failing to make the World Group playoff, losing 2-3 against Uzbekistan last week.

India win inconsequential reverse singles, lose tie 2-3

Namangan (Uzbekistan): India salvaged some pride by winning the two inconsequential reverse singles to reduce their margin of defeat against Uzbekistan to 2—3 in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group I second round tie here on Sunday.

Young Yuki Bhambri stunned Uzbek number one Denis Istomin in the first reverse singles of the day before Rohan Bopanna gave India their second win by beating Sarvar Ikramov.

Day 1| India behind 0-2 against Uzbekistan

Namangan, Uzbekistan: India got off to a worst possible start in their Asia Ocenia Group I Davis Cup tie losing both the singles matches against Uzbekistan who took a 2-0 lead here on Friday.

Rookies Sanam Singh, 24, and the 20-year-old Yuki Bhambri lost their singles matches in straight sets against Denis Istomin and Farrukh Dustov respectively in what turned out to be lop-sided contests.
