Somdev-Sanam, Divij-Vishnu get Wild Cards for Chennai

Chennai: The organisers of the Aircel Chennai Open decided to award wild card for the men's doubles event to Asian Games doubles gold medal winning pair of Somdev Devvarman and Sanam Singh.

Another Indian pair comprising of Divij Sharan and Vishnu Vardhan have also received wild card.

Keeping the team's previous performances and continuing career growth in mind, the organizers of the tournament have decided to present an opportunity for these players to showcase their potential at their 'home' event.


Somdev's ATP doubles ranking is 211 while Sanam is placed at 506. Vishnu is ranked 295 in the doubles chart while and Divij is placed 309. The pair had a great run in 2010, winning 3 ITF Futures Titles and reaching 2 Finals in ATP Challenger events. Vishnu also had a credible performance at the 2010 Asian Games, where he won silver medal in the mixed doubles pairing with Sania Mirza.
