Anshukumar Bhuyan of Odisha survived initial hiccups before defeating Rithvik Anand of Tamil Nadu 7-5, 6-3 for the men’s singles title in the Proserve-AITA 50K National ranking tournament at the Perks Tennis Centre here on Friday.
Bhuyan enjoyed an easy outing last week while winning over Irfan Husain of Tamil Nadu for the title. But, this time around, he was made to sweat by a young and energetic Anand.
The Tamil Nadu youngster took some time to settle down and Bhuyan cashed in on the opportunity to take a 4-1 lead in the first set. But the former fought back in a strong fashion. He served deep and pinned the top seed at the baseline and hit winners time and again to take control of the situation. But before any further damage could be done, Bhuyan came up with big serves.
Bhuyan called the shots in the second set and enjoyed two match points on Anand’s serve and two on his own. Anand applied the pressure with some dicey drops and cross-court winners.
Bhuyan stayed calm and rallied patiently to clinch the set and match 6-3.
The results (final):
Singles: Anshukumar Bhuyan (Odi) bt Rithvik Anand (TN) 7-5, 6-3.
Doubles: Ihsan Husain & Rithvik Anand (TN) bt Vigneshwaran & Vignesh Veerabadhran 0-6, 6-3, 10-6.
